Green Retrieval- Capturing Urban Water

Landscape Architecture & Community Planning – Implementation

Project Narrative

Narrative
The nexus on climate change and anthropogenic pollution presents complex challenges for designing equitable and sustainable communities. Specifically for vulnerable communities that are already challenged by low access to critical resources are further impacted by extreme weather events and exposure to pollution which negatively impacts the local economy and the health and wellbeing of its residents.
The premise of the studio is that the nexus climate change and pollution as a case for broader urban challenges negatively impact underserved communities. Through the intervention of landscapes as sites programmed and cultivated for its
multi-functional use, enables the formation of new interactions, between social and ecological dynamics while building new equitable place making for communities in Lower Price Hill. The aim of the studio will explore the physical site strategies (geometry, clustering, adjacency, connection, etc.) with the surrounding context to enhance the characteristics of the with the
broader Cincinnati community while responding to its local needs.
The project is structured in to two phases first being a neighborhood study and to explore the local and regional relationships between the ecological, social, cultural dynamics, while identifying contextual gaps such as access to resources, climatic change threat, and exposure to pollution that may hinder its interaction.
The second phase of the project is to develop a unified design concept and vision for the site. the project is a proposal of series of landscape typologies that can mitigate the local and regional gaps you have identified that responds to the local social and ecology demands, and cultural preferences of the community. The project aims a creating a series of landscape intervention as better explained in the presentation, to absorb, filter and reuse the urban water flow, directly impacting the CSO overflow, while the architectural intervention is to create a community space for the neighborhood. Thus the studio is a attempt to create an interaction between the ecology and the social dynamics of the society.
