Project Narrative
Tablespoon Cooking Co. is a new home for a local brand that merges professional cooking lessons with a dinner party atmosphere. The flagship location is situated in a historic storefront within Over-the-Rhine’s vibrant Findlay Market district.
The design seeks to blend the utility of a commercial kitchen with the familiarity and comfort of home. One long, continuous space is adapted to numerous functions including bar, reception, formal dining, and cooking demonstration. A custom overhead assembly spans throughout the volume of the space, providing mise-en-place storage, task lighting, utilities, and decorative display.
Design details play up the blend between home cooking and professional technique. Colorful wire grids recall speed racks and cage carts found in back-of-house kitchens. Eat-in kitchen islands mingle with stainless steel worktables. Overhead power supply boi-oi-oings down to the user via ultra-utilitarian coiled cords. Instagrammers delight at a dimensional mural recalling vintage floral print wallpaper, designed and installed in-house concurrent with construction phase services.
