This beautiful home, nestled in the woods of Milford, Ohio, was originally built by the client for his family. But with new accommodation needs arising with an aging mother, he and his wife hired our firm to address multiple areas of concern with an interior renovation and new addition. We designed and constructed a handicap accessible addition, which has a private entrance while maintaining a feeling of integration with the family community. By raising the main entrance of the existing house to the same level as the addition, we established the entire first floor as handicap accessible. This allows the residents of the addition to participate in the life of the family home, while also having their private area. Then, by connecting the two basements, we created both a united lower level, and a united upper level. Finally, an innovative landscape design created an exterior courtyard, uniting the two wings of the house. Maximizing form and function, the new addition and the renovation of the existing home create a cohesive whole that fully serves the needs of its various occupants.
