altafiber, formerly known as Cincinnati Bell, was originally housed in a building that was constructed in 1931 and registered as a historic site in 1995. This art-deco office building was designed to protect the city’s phone network switchboard. As technology advanced and the company evolved, it relocated and rebranded.
The renovated altafiber headquarters are now situated in the Atrium skyscraper in downtown Cincinnati. This space represents a blend of historical significance and modern innovation, designed with hybrid and flexible work schedules in mind. LEED Silver certified, the headquarters features an open workspace with desks strategically placed near windows, complemented by greenery and plants.
The aim was to create a harmonious environment that supports seamless collaboration in a hybrid work setting. With two training rooms capable of accommodating up to 50 people each, the space encourages innovative thinking and educational approaches. To enhance comfort and productivity, a Central Café with a kitchenette was added, creating a hospitality zone. Approximately 90% of altafiber staff visit the office at least once a week. Instead of fixed cubicles, 'neighborhood' zones with flexible, hotel-style workspaces allow employees to work anywhere in the office, promoting cross-departmental collaboration and breaking down silos. Environmental graphics, altafiber branding, signage, and historical elements were integral to the renovation.
True to the nature of altafiber, the headquarters evolved with modern technology and remote and flexible work implementation. Starting as a single building housing the telephone connections in the city, this company now spans several states and has a flexible, modern, and unique workspace so the employees can continue evolving right alongside the company they work for.
