The Village Green has long been the heart of Wyoming, a civic commons reflecting the city’s small-town character since its growth as a 19th-century rail suburb along the Cincinnati, Hamilton & Dayton railroad lines. However, by the late 2010s, the park’s infrastructure, especially the aging gazebo, could no longer support modern event needs.
To address this, the City of Wyoming and the Wyoming Community Foundation launched a community-driven planning effort in 2020 to reimagine the park and pavilion, ensuring the project reflected both tradition and future aspirations. The new pavilion echoes Wyoming’s historic train station, once a gateway to Cincinnati and symbol of the city’s suburban identity. Designed as a civic landmark, it honors that legacy of connection by providing a welcoming cultural space for gathering and celebration, extending Wyoming’s tradition of blending history, community, and civic life. The design team collaborated with community leadership, refining the performance pavilion architecture to best reflect Wyoming’s history, neighborhood character, and shared community values.
The pavilion’s design serves as the park’s new focal point, drawing from the historic rail station, then reinterpreting its forms, proportions, and details into a contemporary civic landmark. By translating the station’s material choices, structure and crafted character, the pavilion carries forward the railroad legacy while adapting a flexible setting for public performances, community gatherings, and everyday use. The Village Green performance pavilion captures the spirit of connection once fostered by the train station into a modern moment of cultural and civic life.
