In February 2022, the Emergency Shelter of Northern Kentucky opened the doors to its new state of the art facilty. With 68 beds, a Daytime Navigation Center, showers, laundry, cell phone charging stations, an onsite medical clinic and community partner rooms the facility provides a life saving and life changing shelter and services for homeless adults in the community.
Not long after the shelter moved into its new home, a collaborative project formed with the Visual Communication Design program at ____ to create signage, wayfinding and environmental graphics which were absent in the building's bare walls. Five students in the Advanced Visual Communication Design III course had the honor to present multiple concepts to the client. Once the concept was chosen, the student-designers planned, mapped and designed the visual system to efficiently navigate guests throughout the building. Through close collaboration with the shelter the students were able to solve unique design challenges and conceive vibrant work that would positively uplift the experience at the facility.
