Megen Construction HQ

Building Architecture- Large Scale (>10,000 sf)

Project Narrative

Megen Construction, one of Cincinnati’s largest general contractors and a leading minority-owned firm in the region was founded in 1993 on principles of ingenuity and expertise. The renovation of their headquarters marked a significant milestone in their continued success. Megen sought a space that not only embodied their core values but also provided a welcoming environment for their employees, reflecting a people-focused and successful firm. This project involved more than tripling the size of their Forest Park, OH headquarters.

The renovation and expansion added 11,109 square feet to the building, including a new courtyard and an expanded parking lot. The addition features a new 9,344-square-foot, two-story building and a 1,765-square-foot open-floor reception area that connects the new structure to the existing office. The new space includes a large kitchen, a fitness room, two new bathrooms, 17 new offices, two new conference rooms, and a shop with two 10-foot overhead garage doors for loading and unloading.

The reception area, named The Family Room, now serves as the main entrance, lobby/waiting area, flexible meeting/breakout space, lounge, and event/entertainment space, and a Tranquility Hub was included in the renovated space of the existing building. The exterior courtyard between the buildings houses a turf putting green and a relaxing water fountain with natural rocks and fauna. A walking path meanders around the serene property on the edge of the woods.

The façade is a vivid statement of the company’s “Be Bold” philosophy. The bright red folded metal sculptural façade concept was born of the company’s iconic ‘M’ logo which was cut into the metal as negative space. The white steel gridded structure beyond is a celebration of construction and extends past the metal panels. It can be seen through the negative spaces of the panels as well as in full view from the inside of the building, expressing the many layers typical of construction.

Modern AEC companies should have corresponding workspaces that inspire employees to create not just concepts but real-world and feasible solutions that come alive with creativity. While practical and functional structures form the foundation of our world, it is creativity and the humanity it fosters that truly enrich our lives. Megen’s revamped headquarters will continue to inspire projects for years to come.
