Mercy Health, Kings Mills Hospital

Building Architecture- Large Scale (>10,000 sf)

Project Narrative

Mercy Health Kings Mills Hospital was built to meet the growing healthcare needs in northern Cincinnati's suburbs. The hospital combines a modern aesthetic with a compassionate atmosphere to alleviate patient anxiety. Clad in metal, reinforced concrete, and glass, the exterior reflects Mercy Health's tradition of care. Inside, a sunlit lobby welcomes visitors with vaulted wood ribs reminiscent of a gothic cathedral, fostering hope and faith. A sculptural wood staircase encourages movement and serves as a gathering space. The lobby connects to the hospital and medical office building, with a courtyard visible through a glass wall. A tranquil chapel, warmed by skylight-filtered light, offers solace nearby. Generous corridors lead patients through the building, filled with natural light and lounge areas. Wood details, like rounded panels and furniture, enhance warmth and comfort throughout key spaces. Kings Mills Hospital prioritizes patient well-being, providing a serene environment that supports healing and connection.
