Project Narrative

The VEGA Americas, Inc. corporate campus in Mason, Ohio, embodies a forward-thinking approach to corporate campus design, seamlessly blending sustainability, wellness, and cultural heritage. The design team collaborated closely with VEGA to create the vision of their North American Headquarters – an extraordinary 50-acre campus that reflects the company’s German roots while setting a national standard for sustainable corporate campuses.
The design team played a pivotal role in bringing this vision to life, ensuring the site was a dynamic fusion of innovative design, environmental stewardship, and employee well-being. Inspired by Germany’s Black Forest, the landscape architects thoughtfully translated this distinct ecosystem into the Ohio landscape. The landscape speaks to Ohio’s ecology and a strong commitment to sustainability, with native plantings that thrive in the region. This careful balance enhances both biodiversity and the natural beauty of the campus, providing a peaceful and restorative environment that pays tribute to the company’s roots while fostering a new future.
The campus features 1.7 miles of walking trails, outdoor plazas, and spaces for wellness activities, gatherings, and events. These amenities offer employees and the community opportunities to unwind, exercise, and connect with nature, promoting healthy lifestyles. The landscape architects blurred the lines between indoor and outdoor by ensuring the landscape could be experienced from multiple vantage points whether on immersive walking trails or through the buildings transparent façade ultimately promoting connection to the environment while reflecting the company’s heritage. This thoughtful design contributes to employees' overall quality of life, encouraging a deeper relationship with nature, and a healthier work-life balance.
In addition to promoting wellness, the VEGA campus sets a new benchmark for sustainable design. The design team implemented numerous eco-friendly technologies, including energy-efficient lighting, EV charging stations, and advanced stormwater management systems. Solar harvesting further reduces the site’s operational carbon footprint, underscoring VEGA’s commitment to environmental stewardship. The use of locally sourced materials and naturalistic finishes throughout the campus reflects the company's dedication to sustainability, while also creating a comfortable and inviting atmosphere.
VEGA’s North American HQ campus is a model for corporate sustainability, setting a new national standard for corporate campus design by demonstrating the profound impact that wellness, environmental responsibility, and thoughtful, sustainable design can have on both employee well-being and the surrounding environment. The design team’s innovative design approach not only transformed VEGA’s headquarters but also set the precedent for over 700 acres of future development in Mason’s Research + Development Park.
