Vessel Brewery

Project Narrative

Both an aggregate and system of individual vessels, this concept brewery takes from the formal qualities of fermentation tanks and re-asserts them as abstracted versions. The vessels ground themselves deep into the earth with precast concrete columnar legs and lift the building onto an overhead concrete plinth. Above ground, the plinth’s arms reach out towards the Purple People Bridge with rentable pods. Elevating the building allows for ground access between the park and street. The raised pedestal floor system on top the concrete plinth creates a horizontal plenum, allowing space for MEP. The Glulam structured vessel tops huddle together and overlap, intersecting and fusing to form a dynamic interior where wall seamlessly turns into ceiling, met by punctured skyward apertures. The exterior and interior experiences of the vessels are contrasted by the patterned copper tile cladding juxtaposed with the stripped back and continuous white interior finish. Ultimately, this brewery of vessels utilizes its lifted elevation as a connection between the existing sidewalk, park and Purple People Bridge.
